Since winning the Taste of Atlanta in 2007, Cafe Dupri – the eating quarters for the young and mighty and restaurant of super producer Jermaine Dupri – appeared, would be a fixture in Atlanta’s Buckhead community. WSB-TV however, reports that as of last week, the restaurant, which would have otherwise seemed to be thriving, has closed its doors indefinitely. Former employees of the So So Def CEO claim to have received checks that bounced and at no point were they either compensated for their losses. Sources report, in fact, that the restaurant’s cooks, waiters, bartenders, etc., hadn’t been paid in weeks.
“Just about everybody in the restaurant got checks that were no good” said former bartender Amy Fosse. “Every time I go to the bank, they say ‘Maybe come back tomorrow, there is nothing here.”
Another disgruntled employee called the circumstances “a mess” and others offered that they were not notified that Cafe Dupri would close its doors, ultimately going to work on good faith only to find a sign on the door that stated, “closed indefinitely.”
Tina Mauldin, CEO of Cafe Dupri reportedly claimed that the workers had been paid and the closure was a “business decision.” According to our source, she also vented that had her former employees worked harder, the eatery would still be open.
